Bit of background first, I've been re-encoding divx+xvid files to dvd format for about a year now based on Chickenman's guide (many thanks by the way!) . I've just set myself up a new faster machine and I've started getting problems.
Originally my problem revealed itself when trying to playback xvid files (not divx as these are all fine). The video would jump around, more so in high action scenes. Very strange though, not just normal stuttering but different sections of the scene jumping around.
I tried encoding one and got very poor results. The encode seemed to go fine but trying to play it back both through windvd and via a copy I burnt off on my player, the video stutters badly, mainly in the sections where it would jump around if I tried to play the AVI file. Some parts (like 1-3 second bits) would play smoothly before stuttering again.
The audo I may add is completely unaffected by any of this pre and encoded.
I use DVDlab to author and I had been using it with great success on my old setup and still do for normal divx encodes.
I read somewhere that installing ffdshow would sort out the playback of xvid files jumping around which I installed and it sorted it out immediately. So I tried another encode and no difference. I presume ffdshow is some kind of post operation and not related to decoding in particular.
I've also tried 2 different builds of the xvid codec and no joy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
