Xvid_encraw.exe and AutoMKV error

vbimport

#1

I’ve been having problems encoding a 120 minute 5GB VOB to avi in AutoMKV. When I try encoding to avi with Xvid, smaller files (200MB VOB -> 25MB avi) are encoded perfectly. However, when encoding a large file (5GB VOB -> 700MB avi), I get the following error message during the second pass:

xvid_encraw.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Following the error message, when I’m taken to the Windows error reporting page, I get this message:

Problem caused by Xvid

This problem was caused by Xvid. This program was created by The Xvid Team. The Xvid Team does not currently have a solution for the problem that you reported.

Recommendation

A newer version of Xvid is available for download that might address this problem. The Xvid Team recommends updating to the latest version of Xvid to take advantage of security and stability improvements.
Thing is, I can’t upgrade because I’m already using the latest version of each program. After the xvid_encraw.exe error popped up, parsing and VirtualDub continued and the process finished, but I was left with a broken 50-minute long 300MB avi.

Has anyone come across anything like this? I’m running XP Pro with 2GB RAM and Athlon 64 Dual Core 4200+ processor. Here’s the AutoMKV log and Xvid error report if it helps…

Hey thanks for your help! I think it was possibly caused by a bad VOB rip though. I used DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD, and when picking the profile in AutoMKV for Xvid, “2 Pass Insane Quality” caused xvid_encraw.exe to crash. However, choosing a different profile worked (I used 2 Pass Extreme Quality instead), and the resultant avi was fine. I haven’t had any other problems with “2 Pass Insane Quality”, so I think it was just a bad VOB.

Just thought I’d post this in case anyone else has the same problem.
