XP Confusion

I purchased an amd athlon xp2400+, but i don’t know if it is t-bred a or b. CPUID reports family 6 model 10 stepping ID 0 (standard) and family 7 model 10 stepping id 0 (extended). I thought that t-bred A had family 6 model 8 stepping 0 and t-bred B had family 6 model 8 stepping ID 1 (both standard_. Do i have an underclocked barton or something like that, or is the mobo reporting the version wrong?

AFAIK, there has neven been an Athlon XP 2400+ with a Barton core inside…

Can you check from what week your CPU is (this can be found on the black sticker on the CPU)? That’s an easy way to determine when it was produced. If this was done recently (say, week 45), it should be a Barton CPU… older CPU’s will more likely be Tbreds.

BTW, did you know that a Barton has 512KB internal cache and a Tbred has 256KB? Ofcourse, it’s possible for AMD to disable some cache of a low-quality Barton to make it a Tbred, but AFAIK, they never did so…
