Back up any Data that you want to save, if you can’t do a System Restore to a date everything worked, you will have to Format and reload Windows. If the HDD is not Seagate or Western Digital, and older than 3 years a new HDD should be used. :cool:

On occiasion, when I had these kinds of problems w/ Xp, I was able to successfully re-install the o/s OVER the original and KEEP my existing programs and files-- I think it’s called an “upgrade” instead of an overwrite… and certainly not a format/install… Only certain verions of the o/s allow his IIRC. If you are concerned about it killing important files, back them up first.

In the future, you might want to invest in a backup program like Acronis true image.

Just re-installing without deleting will simply do that…
