Also, before judging it totally dead, try 1 more thing. Remove the IDE cable and put them back in again, repeat the process a few times, sometimes they need a little friction. The interface inside is copper and just like batteries develop a lining which sometimes needs to be rubbed off. This may get it going, but if that fails, it may be safe to call the drive DEAD.
Ohh, and if this helps and the drive will still show dead somtimes, get new IDE cables.
