Xbox 360

how do i flash this driver for my xbox 360?

Welcome to the forum

Let’s move this to the Console Forum, where you’ll get better help.

thanks, where do i access this forum?

well you need to find out what model of DVD-ROM drive you have first and then you can find options to be able to flash it

http://llamma.com/xbox360/repair/dvd_drive/hitachi_360_dvd_tray_500.jpg … which one do you have? … and if it’s a hitachi when was it (the console) made? (it says on back where “mfg date” is) … if it’s the Samsung or BenQ it can be moded for sure pretty much.

to sum it up if you got a samsung it can be moded… if you got a BenQ that can be moded to and “most” hitachi’s can be moded fairly easy as they require no soldering (the only one thats hard to mod is the Hitachi 79 as far as i know as that requires soldering in order to flash it)

also, to sum it up if your console was made BEFORE 2007 it almost for sure can be moded without soldering  … if it was made after 2007, as far as i know most come with either Hitachi 79’s (which you want to avoid) or BenQ’s which recently can be moded all software now  (which is basically easy to mod now)

http://www.360mods.net/tutorial/Textbook.pdf (this has alot of good info as it basically tells you step by step on how to mod the console in about as easy to understand language as possible ;) … if you got the BenQ ? read this tutorial… http://tinyurl.com/38pqsb

p.s. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124022 … with this card (about 19 dollars out the door) it works on ALL modable xbox360’s drives that can be moded all software, basically no soldering required. (which is pretty much everything besides the Hitachi 79’s, it will work on those but like i say it would require soldering a chip etc etc to get it to work which aint that easy as far as i looked into it, so in other words avoid them)

me personally, i have a Samsung MS28 drive in my xbox360 and that link to that SATA card (the newegg.com link) is what i used to flash my drive.

and i also forgot to mention… if your planning on using XBox Live and cant afford to lose XBox Live, DO NOT mod the console as most likely you will eventually be banned… “as of now” you can play on xbox live with a moded console BUT there’s no guarantee’s that you wont eventually be banned… so the only 100percent safe way to not get banned on xbox live is to leave the console untouched  … just thought i would say this, if you dont care about xbox live then this wont apply to you

Modded consoles are getting banned left and right, so definitely stay away from modding if you can’t live without XBL. You can still use a modded console on Xbox Connect though.

exactly… cause from what i read lately it seems it “might” have something to do with the extraction of the SS (Security Sector) from the Kreon drives etc… and it sorta seems to be random with some games… some work and some dont… this appears to what’s been getting people banned lately… but bottom line is still … cant afford to lose live = dont mod… you dont care about live = mod

the driver is hitachi gdr_3120L ver oo47DH originally.replaced with veroo78FK. don’t know what or how to next

ok so i see you got a hitachi 78 … but since your replacing a hitachi 47… if i recall correctly your going to have to spoof (basically makes the system think it’s still using the original hitachi 47 when it’s actually using the new (hitachi 78) drive) the drive to make it work in the xbox.

plus i hope the dead drive still works as you need to get the drive key from it otherwise your screwed for sure then… cause drive keys are unique to each system… so if that gets lost… your pretty much screwed to sum it up.

as for spoofing in a little hazy on that cause im more familiar with Samsung’s myself since thats the only drive i directly had any experience with.

where do i find this drive key and how can i retrieve it? i am getting a prompt to flash but i really don’t understand any of this stuff.

like i say DO NOT attempt ANY flashes until your SURE you have the original firmware file backed up (which contains the drive key) … basically the drive key is inside the firmware file on the xbox360’s dvd-rom drive… cause the bottom line is… if the original fw file is corrupted with drive key, that xbox360 is pretty much junk.

best advice i can give you is to read the “textbook.pdf” (which still assume’s you know a little bit about pc’s) file as it explain most of the stuff as best as possible… but if i recall correctly, i dont think it says anything about spoofing etc.

i would read it and if you find nothing about it… check 360mods.net (if you got mIRC goto irc.efnet.net and join the #360mods.net channel… someone (textbook himself or caster420 etc) in here should be able to give you a more specific answer… if you had a Samsung i would know what to do  , but since you dont ill suggest that.

but basically read the Hitachi section of the textbook.pdf file.

like i say i might be able to help you out some but i can only do so much since i never really looked into flashing hitachi’s and spoofing etc on those all that much. sorry.

but im pretty sure your going to need that “maximus firmware toolbox v4.6” (which is the newest as it contains the ixtreme 1.4 firmware in it, which came out within a week or so ago)

but im fairly sure you will need to hook up your original drive (hitachi 47) and dump (read) the fw file to your pc… so you can do that first of all  … just DO NOT write any data to the drive itself… this part i know is safe.

on a side note… here’s more info about the bannings (real recently, in the last couple days)

http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEAZlVkFFucklCFRYQ.php … so it appears even on the newest iXtreme fw that people are still getting banned… so “as of now” no ones narrowed down HOW MS is banning people pretty much.

thank you so much.
