There really isn’t a permanent solution. There is always a possibility that this will happen in the future, especially if you do a lot of ripping and burning. At least now you know what to look for, and how to fix it, when it happens. My experience has been that drives in laptops are much more prone to dropping down into PIO mode than are drives in desktops, but I have nothing but anecdotal experience to substantiate that.
Personally I use the registry edit method to deal with it.
