Writer or discs or somthing else

hi, not sure if im in the right bit but looking to try and gt some help with an issue im havin thats giving me loads of coasters.
im usin a Sony Dvd RW DW-U18A which has been in the pc from new (about 3 years old)… ive used datawrite titaniums to do discs usin vso`s convertxtodvd and didnt really have any trouble upto a couple of months ago whn i got the vx2 version of these discs. The 1st box of 50 seemed to be ok but since usin this 2nd box im gettin a load of coasters with “power calibration -cd-burner is dirty” errors…i also had problems with dvd decryptor which said it was bad media, so i got some ritek g-05 as was told these as decent discs bit when i tried to burn a film with vso i got this followin log file…

18/10/2007 10:09:58 info Media removed. Burning layer not ready to write

18/10/2007 10:08:45 info Inserted media type : DVD-R

So i uninstalled the program and reinstalled again and it burnt ok that time, but when i went to use dvd decryptor is said there was no disc in drive so i put in dvd player and that came back as unknown disc so tried another dvd player and it worked but the picture kept freezing.
Then ithought id try the datawrite discs again and foir some reason they burned ok this time, so idont know wether my writer is on its last legs and wether my writer does not like the ritek media.
Any help/info would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Also ive never updated firmware as i looked yesterday for some and couldnt find any updates for it jus people sayin they had flashed their drives ( i seriously dont know what thats about though as im pretty much a newb when it gets techy), so again.thanks for any info/help you can provide.

Also this is vso log from earlier disaster with datawrite disc…

Hi and Welcome!

Ritek G05 is known to degrade extremely fast, so these are far away from being decent.

Also ive never updated firmware as i looked yesterday for some and couldnt find any updates for it jus people sayin they had flashed their drives ( i seriously dont know what thats about though as im pretty much a newb when it gets techy), so again.thanks for any info/help you can provide.
Firmware consists of a table of supported media and instructions how to handle these. A newer firmware might help with media related problems.
The bad thing is, since there is no newer firmware that support the new media for that older drives, there is no solution apart from getting a new drive.

Also using quality media instead of these Riteks isn’t a bad idea at all.

Michael

Ahhh…so it sounds more like i need a new burner then??..cheers for the reply to
