Write Error

Hi,

I have started using my dvd burner but each time I want to burn video dvds to back up my movies, I receive an error message. The error message is different with each software I tried. For example, in using CopytoDVD I get a message that says: Error, Unable to start the write process - finalization skipped to preserve media. Error, WriteSector failed at sector 0(32) - code 05 30 05 [Illegal request, Cannot Write Medium, Incompatible format].

Of course all the protections on the dvd have been removed, the files are already on my computer. Those files are VOB, IFO, BUP files, nothing uncommon. Of course my dvd was blank. I use Windows XP pro and my burner is a Ricoh, RW 8165.

When using CloneDVD2, when the creation of the DVD files is done, I get a message that says “cannot obtain exclusive access to the drive”. I tried different other softwares and it never worked out.
If someone could help me out, I would appreciate…

@ ornwalden,

I believe you are posting in the incorrect Forum. Your posting concerns the use of CloneDVD but you are posting in the CloneCD. Also it is prudent to review the Copy To DVD log before you post it because this particular log contains your name.

The problem you are reporting is most likely caused by DVD media incompatibility between your DVD Burner and the particular DVD media you are using. If you are experiencing difficulty with your DVD media it is prudent to insure that your DVD Burner has the most current up to date firmware available for your DVD Burner installed. The DVD Burner firmware is one of the input parameters that is used to identify the DVD Media that is inserted into the DVD Burner.

Your Ricoh DVD+RW RW8165 currently has version 1.01 firmware installed, which is an old firmware. There is a newer version 1.03 firmware available. Suggest visiting The Firmware Page (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=14&manufactor=39 ) for information on obtaining the latest firmware available for your Ricoh DVD+RW RW8165 DVD Burner.

It appears that you are using HP DVD+R CMC MAG-E01-00 DVD Media. HP does not manufacture their on DVD Media but purchases DVD from some DVD manufactures usually from China. Using HP DVD is rather hit or miss. Your particular HP media came from CMC, which is noted for poor quality control and erratic burning performance. Suggest acquiring good reliable DVD Media. Taiyo Yuden has a proven track record as being good reliable DVD Media. Rima Com (http://www.rima.com) is a reliable source of Taiyo Yuden DVD Media.

Suggest visiting the CD Freaks Media Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33) and see which DVD Media other Forum members have reported as good reliable DVD media. Also suggest viewing the Media FAQ’s (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=61943)

I hope the above information helps you correct the problem you are currently experiencing.

Best Regards,
bjkg
