Write Error! help! invalid address?

I am using a HP dvd840e DL writer and 1 click dvd copy software

I have been burning movies and it has worked perfectly fine. I just copied my first DL movie, which also worked fine, yet recently it wont let me burn any more DL movies and i can’t figure out why.

I keep receiving the a write error that says: Code 05 21 02 [Illegal Request, invalid address for write]
I have recently ruined about 4 CDs trying to copy movies, and it is really frustrating

here is part of my logs if that will help. i’m not sure which is which and which is useful so here are both (the F7 function and F8 function)

PLEASE HELP!!!

Go here - Check and see if you have the latest Firmware for your Burner
It’s probably best to use the ‘Auto-Detect’ - There are several ‘versions’ of that Model
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers

I would only - ever use Verbatim R DLs -
… anything else
… and you’re just taking your chances with a coaster . Period .

thank you for your quick reply. i may be an idiot, but i tried the site and cannot figure out the newest version of my firmware. i tired the “auto-detect” format and it said that no HP products could be found, so i searched for it and came up with nothing. I am currently using version 5.1.2535

any ideas?

Try the e ( external ) if it’s not for your Drive
IT will tell you . ( Not recognized )
http://search.hp.com/query.html?lang=en&submit.x=3&submit.y=3&qt=HP+DVD+Writer+840d+&la=en&cc=us

it still isn’t working, and i can’t figure out why… any other ideas?

I had the same problem. I was using Ridata 8x DVD+R disks, after about a half of a dozen coasters from two different batches, I tried different movies and still got the same error. I cleaned up the system (temps and such), same error. I replaced my dvd-rw drive, same error. I had a few Fujifilm 8x DVD-R’s, tried one of them and it worked fine. Went back to the Ridata and got errors, back to the Fujifilm and it worked fine. So I say try a different brand disk, its worth a shot.

As far as a Firmware Update … maybe this helps …

IF not - Contact HP Support
HP is lousy about keeping up with Updates for their DVD/RWs

  • and having several Versions of the Same Drive
  • all requiring different Firmware
    I’m sorry - I would not have purchased a HP DVD/RW
( I have one that came with my Computer )

Your Drive is probably a re-badged LG

  • but your stuck with HP’s crappy Firmware Support .
  • sorry

Did you Update to 4.2.9.13 ? or 5.0.2.2.?

Could you post a ‘Updated’ Log Session attempt ?
