Write Error at end of burning CD's

A couple weeks ago I started turning out coasters from my burner. It would always fail at the end of the burn process. I thought maybe my burner was past it’s prime so I bought a new one and installed it. But this hasn’t solved my problem, even with the new burner it’s still failing. I uninstalled Nero 5.5.whatever and installed the latest version from Ahead but it STILL fails.

I have exactly the same problem, and I have the same drive!

I’ve had the problem for quite some time but had given up searching for a solution, but thought I’d try again.

I find that if I set the speed to X32 it works, but my Hi-Fi takes ages to pick it up and the CD Text doesn’t work (I use Nero 6). However, if I put one of the failed CDs in the same Hi-Fi it picks it up straight away and the CD text works (obviously though the very last track never finsihes!!) The error surely can’t be down to buffer underrun as I have AMD 2800XP with 512MB Crucial RAM, could it?! That doesn’t really explain the CD text and the CD being picked up/not picked up by my Hi-Fi.

Your log file shows that you are using CMC magnetics discs:

After reading around I’ve seen that updating my drives firmware might help. How risky is this? And does anyone know where I can get the latest firmare for the ARTEC 52Z-WR? I’ve tried googling but all the links are dead.

Firmware updates are risky if you do NOT know what you are doing.

Just make sure that you have the exact firmware update for your “Make and Model number” and print out the manufacturers instructions. If need be, contact the manufacturer and get the Firmware link or update e-mailed to you. Only when you are clear about what you are about to do, go and do it. OK, so you want a warranty or guarantee - Sorry no such thing exists, you do all this at your own risk! which is nothing new.

Other simpler solution is, try burning at a slower speed - like only 8x, and see what happens! :bigsmile:

I’ve tried burning at slower speeds and although it doesn’t fail my CD player takes ages to pick it up and the CD text does not work. I’ve checked the settings and my CD player supports it and it’s enabled, but it never works. I used iTunes to burn a CD and it was fine, but that doesn’t support CD Text. Hopefully in the future it will. I also tried a copy of Roxio’s Easy Media Creator 7, but that didn’t even pick up my drive!
