Worse Quality when Converting .avi to DVD

vbimport

#1

hi i converted a star wars movie that was in .avi format to DVD files with divxtodvd converter (using the high quality/slow encoding setting) and the quality is much worse. But it shouldnt be (right?)because the movie is only 2 hours long, which is the recommended amount to burn on a 4.7gig DVD. The original avi file was in ac3 5.1 sound with 720X304 video and is 2.05 gigabytes in size. I dont understand why the dvd i made form it has worse sound and a darker, less sharp picture than the original. Maybe its may dvd player (power DVD)? Is there any special way i can convert it without losing all of this great quality from the .avi file?
THANKS

Please post your conversion log, which can be found here: C:\Documents and Settings<User>\Application Data\VSO\ConvertXtoDVD.log

Hi there,

Convert it to a DVD9, maybe you will get more bitrate.

As asked above, please provide full conversion log.

ConvertXtoDVD probably needed to lower the bitrate a little, so it would fit on a DVD5.

A good quality .avi file (700mb) will fill a DVD5, so I can see a 2 gb .AVI getting the bitrate reduced to fit the DVD5.

My 2 cents…

Hi,

Is it only with this file that you have the problem?
Have you tried converting it with another version or watching it with VLC too see if the result was any different?

#8

That movie should have almost identical picture compared to original.
2 hours fits to DVD5 just fine without any loss of quality.

Have you tried watching it in real DVD player? (standalone unit)
