Now this probably wouldn’t be too hard to implement:

It would be really nice, if say the CloneCD tray could learn how to defeat certain protections by learning when we run an original disc. This could prevent piracy also.

Theoretically it could work for all forms of protection, either old or as yet not invented. I’m sure it could work for DVD games too.

HideCDR already knows how to defeat SD. Alcohol and BlindWrite already know how to defeat SecuROM New.

Yes, I know there are security issues to work through…

Surely manufacturers wouldn’t mind us making a backup of our bought games?

Umm, thats probably a lot harder than you think. How is it to differentiate between protection data and game data? I don’t know, I just don’t see this happening but what do I know, I can’t program.

Well, CloneCD tray can emulate SD errors already, ALcohol and BW can emulate physical layout of SecuROM already.

This would be the next logical step wouldn’t it?

They don’t really. What they object to is other people making “backups” of our bought games. :wink: :o

I don’t see what is wrong with the way backup apps work today. As new protections are found they are dealt with. There is no way to predict what new copy protection ideas will emerge.
