[qanda]This thread is about the Samsung SE-S204N. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop that uses a Samsung internal DVD drive. About a week ago or so, the DVD drive stopped working. In the device manager, there was the yellow exclamation point telling me that Windows (xp, service pack 3) cannot load the device driver and that the driver may be corrupted or missing. I had windows look for an updated driver and it returned with a message saying that it couldn't find anything better than what I have.
Figuring that the drive must be damaged, I bought a new external DVD drive, Samsung SE-S204S/AMWN which is supposed to be plug n play. Nothing happened. In the device manager, the drive is showing but with the same problem as the internal drive. I called Samsung, they told me it was a problem with Windows not communicating corrrectly with the drive?? Microsoft can't seem to help me, either. Maybe my internal drive wasn't damaged after all? Can't figure out why this is an issue with both drives and what to do to get them working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
