I am working on an HP Workstation with an XW-4400 motherboard. Yes a beast of yesteryear.
The problem is the Windows updater. I had to install a new 320 GB Western Digital HD and fresh install W7. The OS works fine on the board but when I went to install the updates after the fresh install I found that the Windows updater found over 200 updates but when the install button was clicked it was either "downloading updates", but never did, or, was "preparing to install" but never did. Once I left the computer "downloading updates" all night and the next morning it was at 0%.
But then I notice that after allowing the updater to work for 30 minutes to and hour, and then turning the computer off it would install updates. Sometimes one, sometime two, sometimes ten. The most it installed at one time was eighty. And the time it installed eighty on shutdown, it did so in a timely manner.
So could someone tell me why this computer won't download and install updates, though it will find them, through the updater.
A couple of time since the original, over 200 updates were installed, on shutdown, there have been new updates and they installed without problem.
I have tried everything I know, everything I can find on Microsoft and the net. Have tried Microsofts Fixit's but have found an answer yet.
