You are most likely missing codecs.

Download and install K-Lite Codec Pack Full, you should be good to go.

You could check the microsoft media player web site and download the needed codec there and addon to the media player as well.

You could tell us what it is doing when you try to play an AVI or an MPEG. Just telling us it won’t do it doesn’t tell us very much.

It doesn’t do anything and neither does it come up with a error message, i just clicked the video and it opens media player and thats it no picture no sound nothing and it won’t play either.

Did you install the codecs?

Yup i installed the K-lite codecs and they worked :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks for that :stuck_out_tongue:

Good to see your problem is solved.

Windows Media Player 11 Not Playing Avi MPG

If you have a problem with Windows Media Player 11 not playing .avi or .mpg files, even after you tried to re-install it, this is what you should do:

Download and install K-lite Codec Pack Full.
This is the link: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

After you have installed the K-lite Codecs, Windows Mediaplayer should work and play .avi and .mpg files.

So after installing the K-lite Codecs, your problem is solved.

However, I’m considering switching to Windows 7, which has Windows Media Player 12. Do I need to install the K-lite Codecs pack in that case too?

MultiC0pier,

have you not read post #2 which was made 2.5 years ago??

I downloaded this Codec (click link below) and now WMP11 works for AVI files.

Either:

Media-Player-Codec-Pack

OR

Windows-Essentials-Media-Codec-Pack

OR

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 6.5

ALL free downloads do the job, but I’ll point out that cnet quotes around 5million downloads of the first two and only about 1.5million downloads of the K-Lite package…

Generally specific competing free software downloads are popular over one another for good reason.

My preference is for the first one I list above (Media-Player-Codec-Pack) as the install doesn’t seem as glitchy as the second one.

And yes, I know this is a resurrected topic but the question keeps coming back…
