Please note that the reactions from the complete site will be synched below.

Why does most of this not surprise me? I’m sure that programs like the famous Start8 will need updating, as Microsoft “seems to be confident” in not-Metro.

I wonder if Microsoft is shying away from the term “service pack” for some reason? This timing will be similar to XP, Vista and Win7’s SP1 delivery.

Does anyone remember a marketing effort to avoid using “Service Pack” for those SP1 efforts? I don’t… I remember there was greater anticipation with a “Wait til SP1” for the biggest customers to push into the new OS.

Maybe the new folks at Microsoft only want to use Names instead of Numbers, and then they can change the names to avoid any copyright battles. Russ Meyer doesn’t own “Blue” as a term for his style of films, does he?

No. Probably not. I’m sure Steve Ballmer would know THAT one specifically.

Please check the one you prefer:

☐ Windows Blue
☐ Windows Blew
I wonder if Microsoft is shying away from the term “service pack” for some reason?
I wouldn’t expect a service Pack for 8, unless there will be a SP2 for Win7:

NT4: SP6a
W2k: SP4 + rollup
XP: SP3
Win7: SP1
Win8: ?

That’s a good list, there. Yes, an SP2 for Win7 would definitely follow that trend IF they do pronounce Blue/Blew as an official SP1.

Have you perceived a consumer segment that dislikes the name “Service Pack” of late? I haven’t noticed any trend in that regard whatsoever, but we haven’t heard one peep about large-scale migrations “waiting for SP1”, like Vista then Win7.

And with Win7, after several months of the occasional “Wait for SP1”, there was equal press given to “Don’t bother waiting - it’s good enough now…” commentaries.

It shoud be called W8 blues.

You forgot Vista with SP2 between these operating systems.
