I just posted the article Windows 8 start menu replacement Start8 1.1 released - many fixes.

If you’re on Windows 8 and can’t get around the fact that you don’t have a start menu on your desktop then there is a wide range of applications to put it back for you. A very popular one is Start8 from the software company Stardock which released version 1.1. today.

I never found it to be as customizable as the real deal. For example, with the good old Microsoft menu, you could customize it to not include My Network Places, or to include My Computer as a menu, instead of a button.

Really, having “too many” buttons is something I could learn to live with, but I very much prefer to have menus for My Computer, My Documents, ect. as I can’t live without these. I’ve moved on to Power8.
