Will my rear projection TV do 720p at least?

Hi there

I have a rear projection TV (I think it’s CRT but i’m not an expert) with component AV ports in the back.
I was wondering if I bought a component AV cable for my Xbox 360 if I would be able to do 720p (or some form of higher resolution) on my TV.

The model is Philips 29PT3425/79

Any answers would be much appreciated,

Thanks very much

No, you can’t do ANY high definition, unless it’s scaled down to Standard Definition.
Your TV is 4:3 also, not 16:9 like current model TV’s.

Your Xbox360 can output SD via component video though, so you will get a slight increase in quality compared to s-video or composite video.

You’ll get slight improvement compared to s-video way better than composite.

Would the increase in quality be worth paying approx $10 US Dollars for a component cable?

Hell yes :iagree:
But you can use any RCA->RCA cables you’ve got lying around, so long as you co-ordinate the input & output.

If you’re like me, and not many people are, you will have bought enough devices you’ve got rca cables coming out of the wahzoo, and you can just mix and match.

You’ll need 3 RCA to RCA cables for the video, and 2 x RCA to RCA for the audio = total 5 x RCA to RCA cables.

You can use a mixture of single cables, double cables, triple cables … or whatever … to make your five RCA cables

So using the RCA cables does the same the thing as buying an OEM Xbox 360 component cable…?

No.

The XBOX360 has a custom plug arrangement, which means you must buy the special adapter/cable set for the xbox360.

See here for images of the cable ->http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360componenthdcable/
The $40 price tag for that cable set is outrageous.

Yeah they’ve got you where they want you.

The X-BOX 360 wireless adaptor is ludicrously over-priced too IMO yet I’ve just bought one for my wife.

It’s ok, I found a new one on the internet for $10.

Some old (last 8-10 years) TV used to be HD ready that means if you connect them to Cable box with HD tuner then they would display HD with 720P or 1080i resolution.

The model the O/P has is a simple flatscreen CRT TV -> http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/2/29pt3425_79/29pt3425_79_pss_aen.pdf
