Despite this being my first post i've been a frequent reader of club cdfreaks boards for quite a while now. Only decided to give it a go today. Usually i find every answer to my doubts around here but this time i must confess that im quite confused already.
My doubts are pretty simple. Sometimes there ins't the possibility to see a moovie on the tv, because i'm not at home, or the tv is at use, among others. So i have to use my computer. Since i bought my first laptop and it came with Cyberlink's PowerDVD i've been upgrading and using their products till sometime ago. Personally, since version 8 things have gotten too much "elaborate". Stuff like MoovieLive make me "hate" PowerDVD. Albeit the word is a bit strong.
Since i didn't want to be spending (if needed for a commercial alternative) a lot of money trying and not liking i would like to ask you guys what would you recomend for a software DVD player.
I've made some searches around the forum and i haven't found anything conclusive.
And i already gave a try to VLC. It's neat, but the fact that it doesn't auto-deinterlace isn't quite so neat. Especially with so much options afterwards to choose from deinterlancing. And it felt a bit "quirky" playing DVDs. Nonetheless, a good free alternative i thought.
Also tried MPC but in order for it to do SPDIF passthrough it's a bit "complicated". Didn't like that hassle. Sometimes when around my 5.1 set (Z5500) i like to use it's external decoder.
Resuming, i'm searching for something essentially simple but that can do some kind of all-around PowerDVD experience - withouth the nagging bit that theese new versions have brought with them. Something like - inserting DVD & play.
Would you guys suggest anything?
