Why Zone-CLV?

G’day all,

From what I have seen, most new writers that are capable of recording at over 4x-speed (with the exception of the new Lite-ON LDW-811S and maybe others?) turns to the Z-CLV writing method for their higher speeds. Why can’t manufacturers go to P-CAV or CAV? I feel that burn speeds will suffer because of the writing method.

On the other hand, I own a nice Lite-ON LTR-32123S with XS0X firmware, so I guess I can’t complain!

i’m guessing it’s cuz Z-CLV is easier to implement than P-CAV or CAV, but i could be wrong.

Well, the new Pioneer DVR-A07/DVR-107 and the Plextor PX-708A come in to mind…

Get the picture

CLV is faster, in most cases, because it starts faster.

Well of course!

However, as far as I know, Z-CLV is slower than CLV or P-CAV. That’s why I’m questioning it’s use in new 4x+ burners.

It’s just a matter of time until P-CAV is available. LiteOn most likely will be the 1st one to implement it .
We just gotta wait & see.
