Not sure if this question should be here, so please, just move it where it should be.
Why there are no reviews on external writers? I know most of them are just external_converter_connected versions of internal ones, but connection handling really matters. Perhaps they do not deserver their own review, but a section on their internal version would be very wellcome.
For example, how improves performance an 8MB buffer over 2 MB on an external drive. Being external means a harder life regarding available real-time bandwidth so the bigger buffer the better. Would not that be important when comparing Plextor 708UF and Liteon851? Or even generic-case conected internal drives could be reviewed on this way.
I could guess some among us do prefer buying the internal version of the drive and get the external case at a much cheaper price, even better if you can reuse the old external case you already bought before. The comparison could help us doing so. What do we loose when using internal drives onside generic cases instead of manufactured external drives?
Some other questions come to me, questions like: Does really pay getting firewire800 drives to improve response times? Do I need a SATA optical device? Do newest drivers use all available bandwidth on a USB1.1, USB2.0, fw400 or fw800? Are they much worse compared to internal drives? How much? Much slower recording? perhaps slower reading and higher delays?
I agree this forum is about DVD/CD recoring but, are not our recorders connected to our computer? Shouldn't that connection adn the drivers used matter as much as if the drive can do some certain recording trick?
I'm not complaining, please do not take this that way. I actually thank you very much for your GREAT work. I was just wondering if there is something I am missing.
Perhaps I am not taking the "freaks" part of the web domain seriously enough and you only really care about recording itself. If that is so, I appologize for asking such an stupid question and would thank you if you could lead me to a web where I could get what I am looking for.
Thank you very much,
