I wonder why Lite-On doesn't collect learned data (EEPROM) uploaded by the drive owners for statistical reasons. New firmware could be easily improved or users could exchange learned write strategies for specific media.
I would prefer to pay Lite-On for that instead of throwing away media...
Another thing I don't understand why the number of errors increase around the layer break even with DVD+R DL where I can set the layerbreak where I want. Where are these errors exactly? On the second layer or on the first layer? It wouldn't make sense to me if they increase just before the layer has changed.
