Why does Nero tell me I have the wrong type of disc in the recorder when I don't?

Hi,

From time to time, I have a problem burning movies I have downloaded onto DVD and CD formats. Nero will tell me I have the wrong type of disc in the recorder when this is not the case.

Strange thing is, it seems temperamental, unless I am missing something. For example, I burned a movie onto a CD this morning, no problem. Then I went to burn another one and it did not work.

In both cases, I was burning cue/bin files.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers

The log file should show what type of disc Nero is asking for. Maybe the file you have is actually too large when converted for DVD and Nero is telling you that, or perhaps you have the wrong type selected in the compilation window.

Also, unless you have special software, you should not be able to burn an image of a CD to a DVD.

Hi Saltgrass,

Thanks for reply.

I do check that I have chosen the right disc format. I am also burning movies that I download from a torrent website (that ususally come in bin/cue files or avi’s). I am just trying to burn another movies now and it seems to work on the Imation CD’s but not other brands. If the size of the movies is too big, I have adjusted for overburnining and if it is still too big, Nero tells me this.

I’ll check the log files - not done this before so hope I can do this pretty easily - I have seen the window pop up with Log files but not looked at them.

thanks.

You might check for threads about burning bin/cue files. I believe, but not sure, the update for Nero may have changed how some of those are handled.

Have you checked for a firmware update for the burner?

I am getting in a bit over my head Saltgrass! bin/cue files are ok generally. it seems to be rejecting my tdk cd’s but not my imation cds, nor my verbatim dvd’s. Ok, I saw another thread regarding firmware and they direct you to a site where you can download firmware. But I pulled out of doing that in case I muck it up. I have a matshita dvd-ram US-820S but I looked at the website for firmware, picked the Matshita dvd-rom (laptop - which I have) and then I sort of freaked a bit. I’m not sure what to do from here. Just throw out the crapy tdks???
