It's an excellent CD burner.
It's an amazing quality reader for media, even stubborn discs. Paired with ISO Buster, there is almost nothing this burner cannot read.
But it has known quirks with writing some DVD media. TY DVD-R for example, lots of problems, regardless of firmware. The latest batches of MCC02RG20 8x Verbatim have some issues too. It does an excellent job with PRODISC/MCC media, as well as TY DVD+R media. It's not a drive where "everything" works, so it takes a bit more patience to see which discs it will work well with. Then it's simply a matter of buying those.
The unit is very cheap, $40-50, so it's hard to turn down. Once upon a time, when burners were still $100-200 each, BTC was $50-75. So price has always been it's best asset.
A decent drive, I have several of them. Not trash by any means, but not as perfect as Pioneer or some others.
