I have 2 computers; my office computer and my laptop. The NEC 3500A v.2.18 is in my office computer. I can write to a blank DVD in the NEC just fine from my office computer. And if there is a written disc in the 3500, the laptop can read from it over the network, and I can map it as a network drive.
When there is no media in the 3500, Windows Explorer in the office computer identifies the drive as a "DVD-RW" drive. And under Properties, the "Recording" tab and the "Sharing" tab are both there. And I can access it from my laptop, and map it.
But when I insert a blank DVD-R in the 3500 on my office computer, the laptop says the DVD writer is inaccessible. When a blank DVD is in my 3500, my office computer says the NEC 3500A is a "CD Drive". When I go into "Properties", there is a "Recording" tab but there is no "Sharing" tab.
I want to backup my laptop over my LAN (using a D-Link router) onto a blank DVD-R located in my 3500A on my office computer. Why can't I? Anyway any suggestions would be appreciated. (I am using Windows XP SP2 on both machines and I have tried disabling Norton AntiVirus, but that didn't help.)
