Why are media considered BAD?

I dont get how there can be bad or good. If dvd-r were as bad as everyone says here and the data burnt is unreadable (or such) in like 6 months time, why are these dics makers still in business? It just doesnt make sense. Like how bad is a bad dvd? will it not work after burning it in like say 6months?

does the format of the dvd also affect how long it will laste before going bad? i hear people complaining about unplayler dvd mvoies theyve burnt like 6months before… i

Ive just bought some LG 1-8X DVD-R. There were fairy cheap, 11$ for a spindle of 25. Anyway they are pinked topped (UGLY) and have a ID/MANUFACTURER code: CMC MAG. AE1
Are these good dvd-r?
Are these the same code that some of the TDK have or somthing?
