Why all HDMI cables are the same

I know we’ve been down this road before, This again is just to reemphasize some facts.

Why all HDMI cables are the same - Part 1

Expensive HDMI cables are a rip-off and offer no difference in picture quality over cheap ones. So when a salesman tries to up-sell, politely tell him he’s wrong and move on with the sale.

Why all HDMI cables are the same - Part 2

A few months ago, I wrote the provocatively titled “Why all HDMI cables are the same.”

There was a ruckus. Which I expected.

But the post also generated some great questions. Which I hadn’t. So let’s take a look at some of the more common and persisting questions from my article, and flush some more of the myths surrounding the decidedly-not-magic HDMI down the drain.

Even after two articles, and a tremendous amount of page hits, there still seems to be lots of questions about HDMI cables. I credit this to the complexity of the topic and the mountain of misinformation out there, rather than any particular failing of the writing on my part. Judge as you see fit.

So, you’re saying, the fellow in the alley - the one in the trenchcoat, sunglasses at midnight and the floppy hat pulled down low - his offers of “solid gold wired HDMI cables” might not be completely truthful?!! Darn…

So much for “getting what you pay for”, eh?

I think it was Claude Dukenfield that may have addressed this… “There’s always another sucker…”

Why all HDMI cables are the same… not according to that greedy Apple honks… :frowning:

Well if anyone wants the ultimate proof that there’s no difference here’s the ultimate and most conclusive article I’ve ever seen on this.

The only difference between cables is physical build quality as some cables are built better than others. All this affects is durability though and has no effect on image or sound quality.

If anyone hasn’t read this article before I’d thoroughly recommend it as it pretty much resolves this issue once and for all.

Unfortunately, not all HDMI switches are the same. Grrr.

True that. Some work, others not…:stuck_out_tongue:
