Was wondering who here uses any linux distro for burning?
What do you use to burn?
What does this software support? MP3 to audio CD? Back up data cd with images?
If nero/cloneCD is still best to use does it run well using wine?

Im also interested in those who own a Plextor drive experiance in the matter.

I personally own a Plextor 24X10X40 drive if thats of any useful info to comment on for anyone.

I’m planning to get a Linux box w/Red Hat 7.
My original idea was to use a USB HP 8200 burner that I 'm already using with windows but i’m afraid I’t may be hard to get linux drivers for that :

"The Windows CE, Windows NT Server, Windows 2000 Server, and UNIX ® /Linux operating systems are not supported by HP with any of the HP CD-Writer drives. "

Anyone knows if there are any “non HP” linux drivers for this burner? (HP 8200, USB external)

I guess Red Hat also have some
cd burn utils installed, look
under applications > Archiving,
If not install them using your
RedHat cd’s , and go to something
called like: install software package
or software manager, these progs.
let you see which you already have
installed, or what’s available to
install, most of the time you’re
installing a “front end” because
the actual “tools” to burn or extract, are standard tools,
which you also can use by command line.
When you are going to download some
prog. from the internet be sure it’s a .RPM the files with this extesion, are easy to install, because everything is done for you, if, you’re
missing certain Lib file’s don’t force
the install first install missing parts, this happens only sometimes,
so don’t worry, Gnome Toaster is the best of the lot, you can use it also on a KDE desktop.

hope this helps,

I guess you shouldn’t expect that kind of programs to work
under WINE, you have ASPI also running under WINE ?
maybe you should check some of the HOWTO’s on
this subject, this being a Plextor forum.
