I do not think there is an issue of one being better than the other. For regular data, one can use both write methods with the same efficacy, no difference to the final product. One needs to to use dao though when he wants to overburn a disk or copy data in raw, like 1:1 copies of games. This has been discussed before, where, if memory serves me right, the gurus of the technical forum reached the same conclusion.
o770 to answer your question, is see no reason why tao would cause errors where dao wouldnt in the first place. using bad media or a cdr of bad quality should result in errors being made no matter whether you use tao or dao.
