I’m looking for a new SATA DVDRW. I would like it to be a reliable CD and DVD scanner, and also a decent CD/DVD writer. From what I’ve read here, I should look after a Lite-On, but I can’t find any around here. Only LG, Samsung, Pioneer and Optiarc. Then I saw that some Optiarc are made by Lite-On. Does this mean that they are reliable scanners? Do they need any crossflashing?
The models I can find are:
Which one do you suggest and why? I think the first 3 are original NEC. Maybe the other 2… Also, if you have any other suggestion, it will also be helpfull. Any help will be much appreciated! Thank you…
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th models listed are from the same series. The only difference is that the 3rd has the lightscribe/labelflash function and the 4th I believe has smarterase while the 2nd has neither. Those 3 should be on equal footing as far as writing performance goes. They do have the ability to scan, but they aren’t reliable as such. The 7220S is a rebadged Lite-On, but is recommended only as a scanner/reader. You’d have to do some research on the site for more details. I have no experience with the 5200S drive.
Since your looking for a reader/scanner and you can’t seem to find a Lite-On drive then the 7220S may be your best bet, but I can’t speak to it’s reliability as a writer. I’m not sure if it needs crossflasing or other modifications to work as a true Lite-On. You should do more research before you make a decision. Goodluck.
