Which Radeon is the best?

Which card is the best in overclocking and
which card you think is the best ?

  1. Gigabyte Radeon 9000 Pro 64 MB ( 275 ; 275 ) no radiators.

  2. Gigabyte Radeon 9000 Pro 2 128 MB ( 275 ; 260 ) with radiators.

  3. Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro 64 MB (275 ; 275 )

Best: Gigabyte Radeon 9000 Pro 2 128 MB

But it has slower memory. Are you sure 10 mhz are not important ?

Of course, the GigaByte Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB is the best choice.

the 9000 series are poor, get a 8500

You can overclock that 10mhz back into it.
Your looking at roughly a 5 - 10% loss in performance if you dont.

BUT, there is no performance gain on 128 over 64mb.

Perhaps if you have a slow HDD, or some other bottleneck, but in general FPS tests using 3DMark, there will be no difference.

Infact, the 128mb will be slower due to lower ram clock speed.

Gigabyte Radeon 9000 Pro 64 MB uses 3.3ns Hynix chips. No info on the 128MB part unfortunately but since it’s clocked at 260MHz one could suspect 3.6ns chips. The Sapphire 64MB uses 3.6ns Hynix as well. It’s a mixed bag actually, if you plan on extreme overclocking my suggestion would be the Gigabyte 64MB with added ramsinks. Don’t know how much these extra 64MB will help in the long run, texture wise… 9000 is too fillrate limited to do high res with loads of textures. If overclocking is not of interest get the 128MB one.

Of course, if you could find a 8500 128MB would be a better deal than any 9000pro. Not by far but it would…

Too much misinformation. 10mhz on the memory will not cause a 5-10% performance change.

Go Hercules!

It’s hard to decide…

I found some reviews… 128 MB ouperforms 64 MB only at 1600x1200
resolution. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to run new games at such resolution, because of the framerate.

Now about the 8500. I can get only Sapphire Radeon 8500LE ( 250/200 ). I don’t think that it’s a good choice.

About Hercules… Price is much higher but
perfomance is not ( Not on 9000 Pro) .

Do you have ideas why Sapphire’s Radeon is more expensive then the Gigabyte’s
one ( 64 MB ) ?

What do you think is better on such games as Morrowind :
nicely overclocked Gigabyte’s 64 MB
or lower speed running 128 MB ( Also Gigabyte ) ?

i’d rather have a Ti4200 than any of them radeons, just as cheap and if you get a good model maybe it will clock to Ti4600 speeds. I know the MSi model does cos i own one

mind you, the 8500s are mean cards  there supposed to be bringing out a souped up 8500 in the near future, that will be awesome!

MSI provides better cooling for it’s 4200’s than it does the 4600.
