Which one's Better? BDR-206 or BDR-205

Considering only the US versions (BDR-206/2206 vs. BDR-205/2206) and not the Japanese/Chinese versions (BDR-S06J/XL vs. BDR-S05J/XL), which Blu-ray burner is better based on LDC/BIS scans? I scanned the Results & Discussion for both drives and it appears the BDR-205 is better than the BDR-206.

However, It appears lots of the scans for the BDR-205 are using the Japanese/Chinese versions S05J and S05XL. I was researching on a Japanese review website here:

This website has several scans for several versions of the 205/206 burners. It appears the US version is worse than the Japanese version in several cases for BDR-206/S06J.

Therefore, considering only the US version of the Pioneer 205/206, I want to know which drive is better. I might be over-analyzing this, and perhaps the differences are negligible. I just want to get the best drive.

The 206 will have firmware updates longer than the already old 205. I don’t think I would purchase a 205 now because of that.

I am about to buy a burner as soon as I find out what media to get as I want to combine the order if possible. I will get the 206 based on firmware updates. The 205 will not support newer media because of it’s age.

FWIW, it seems really hard to believe that Pioneer is making different version of the drives and shipping the inferior ones to the US or anywhere else.

Thanks for your opinions. It’s true that Pioneer will stop future firmware updates for the 205 soon more than likely. I did a little bit more research on the Japanese review website. This link directly compares the US 206 to the Japanese 205:

The differences are apparent.

The differences are apparent.[/QUOTE]Well, they’re comparing a mature firmware to an immature one. On top of that how do you if you compared multiple 205’s you’d get consistent results between them? Further, how do you know the 205 (which isn’t made in Japan anymore by the way) is consistent with the S05J?

You may be right. You have several valid points. Lots of variables exist creating uncertainties. That’s why I’m not sure if the 206 or 205 is better. Great discussion.

I ended up ordering the BDR-206 for $109.99 with free shipping from Newegg. Thanks for all of your help.
