First of all, it’s up to you. Just bear in mind that you can turn a Liteon 48246S into 52x by flashing with the 52x FW

is that the only difference ?
i mean, if i flash it with the 52x FW will it be the same as a regular 52x. ?

basically is the hardware of the 2 the EXACT same ?

  • Yes.
  • Yes.
  • Yes.

Check newegg.com and dell w/ coupon for deals on the Lite-Ons.

Search pricewatch…

Got new one delivered to door… RETAIL PKG… cd burner,cable,cdrw disk,cdr disk,box… etc,etc

for like 60 bux or so… that was delivered.

BestBuy has a Memorex 52x24x52 for $54 no rebate. It was $99.

Either way ya look at it… a Lite On 522446 can be had for like 60 bux… 54 plus tax… or 50 somethiong plus shipping…no tax…

No matter how ya look at it…

Matter of fact was damn cheaper than the 48 x Lite On at nexthardware.com

compusa even has the 48246s as buslink that best buy had on sale.
$60 - $30 in rebates.

Would upgrading a 48126s to 52x FW give the same results as the 48246s? For example, the write quality. Is hardware exactly the same?

in point of fact if you are lucky and your local Staples has one in stock do what I did… Price Match the Memorex 48x24x48 to their own website… (it is out of stock there) take it home and flash it to a genuine lite-on 52x24x52 for me here in upstate NY total cost inc tax … $32.11… nice eh  ??

I don’t have one at a local store, but thier selling a bunch of them on pricewatch(48126s). I’m sure everything in FL is on the expensive side when it comes to computer parts(don’t ask me why). Heh, i hope i can find a deal like you. Btw, does lite-on make memorex also or is it just the firmware?

the memorex 48x24x48 is a liteon for sure and I think so are the rest of memorexs from the 24x on up… several people have scooped up armloads of the remaining 48x24 x48’s at staple and are selling em on EbayLinky

Its too bad, staples still has the 29.99 deal for the memorex, but when i click on buy, it tells me its out of stock. Thats probably the best deal we’ll see. Ofcourse until the technology becomes outdated. And the ones on ebay are no longer good deals. Better off buying from pricewatch. I would’ve tried a local staple store, but the closest one to me is about an hour away. I’m not sure if you add up the gas mileage, would i really be saving in the end?

hmm gas = 1.50 @gallon
2 hours of driving @ 60 mph
ballpark figure for gas milage = 24 mpg
120 miles round trip \ 24 mpg = 5gallons of gas * 1.50 = 7.50
7.50 + 29.90 = 37.40 + tax on the 29.90 = approx 32.00 + 7.50 gas 52x liteon burner for under 40.00 …

it’s your call
