The best firmware depends on what you will be using the drive for mostly:
BSLB = Best for Burning High Quality Media (Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, MIJ, MIS)
BSRB = Best for Burning Medium/Low Quality Media and Dual Layer Media
BEFB = Best for Ripping, Reading, and Scanning (DMA4 + No Scanning Slowdowns/Stops)
Not to beat a dead horse, but I usually stay with Verbatim 16X +R MCC004 and 2.4x DL+R MKM001. Should I use BSLB or BSRB (better for DL?).
I just got a refurb external drive hoping to get a DW1650, but found out it is really a DW1640 with GSLB which I assume is an OEM fw - what is the difference between GSLB and BSLB?
I’ve also read here that many seem to believe the 1640 is superior to the 1650 - why? Still debating whether to keep looking for a 1650 or just be happy with the 1640. If I keep the 1640 should I enable/disable Solidburn and WOPC.
I currently have a 5 year old 1620 that is dying and a 1655 that is pretty good with Verbatims but pretty bad with off brands.
