Which firmware for Optiarc 7170

I just got it and am still using 1.02 ( I think) stock firmware…

Which one does everyone recommend? I dont know much about the strategies yoiu guys are talkign about.

THanks.

Before trying any modified firmware. make sure the drive is working correctly.

Yes, I have read and burnt DVD’s and it works flawlessly.

I have also just dumped my original firmware to your website.

Hope it helps.

Also, what is RPC1?

Thanks for the file. Your firmware seems to be slightly newer than the one we already have. Small changes in the +R area have been made it seems.

It means it’s regionfree

Just compared both firmwares. They seem to have changed the strategies for YUDEN000T03 (DVD+R) and MXL16 (DVD-RAM)

So which firmware should I use for this drive?

Glad my firmware helped

Hello,

Yesterday I bought the same burner(7170) and I have the same firmware(1.02).

Only that I have some issues - after I burn a DVD-Data disc with Nero I need to restart my PC in order to open the disc I burned. (works in the DVD player though)

And another more crucial problem - After burning a few DVDs with it right after I bought it, it wouldn’t burn DVDs anymore, I would put a perfectly good DVD-R media in it and it would reject it saying it can’t be written, it kept on doing that after I restarted it and it still does it, though after I try to burn 10 times it eventually accepts it and then it goes just fine. I don’t think its the media, the DVDs are BR tech x16 and they burn great from what I heared.

Anyone else knows about these problems? I came to the computer store to buy a good old Nec 35xx and they stoped selling those, and instead I got this… =\

I’ve saw that theres some unofficial firmwares for 7170 but I’m afraid to damage my DVD, and I don’t see any update in the firmware that resolves any of my problems anyway.

Anyone got a suggestion? thanks.

No Idea M8. Coudl possibly be an OS issue or you got a bad drive.

Im still waiting on which firmware to use for best performance? The stock FW isn’t too bad really. Not one coaster on RITEK R03+R all burn at 8x perfectly.

Im gonna be testing some Dynadex brand DVD’s this weekend some time, when I get them. My friend picked a 100 pack up from Best Buy for $5 and I just gotta give him the cash. We’ll see how these cheapies do

However, PRODISC F01-R also work VERY well, not one single coaster and good@16x.

I don’t usually burn at 16x, but I had to test the drive.

OK Liggy and Dee…What FW should I use? LOL…

Doesnt look TOO bad, but for $5 for 100, I’ll take it.

r3sil3 if you don’t experience any problems, why change the firmware?

And btw I fixed my own problem, I noticed my CD burner(Lite-on one) was acting wierd too, so I disconnected it from my PC and now my DVD burner works flawlessly, also 1.02 stock firmware. They were both on the same IDE and power cable.

I was wondering if it’s a common problem for burners to not work good if they are on the same IDE, one was master and one slave ofc. Or maybe the cable has a problem or something hmm…

Burned 10 DVDs so far x16 no problems at all, though my discs cost 9$ for 25, damn :stuck_out_tongue:

I got this 7170 from Newegg:

Is this the same thing as the “Optiarc” 7170? Will I be able to use the 7170 firmware from Liggy&Dee’s site?

Yes, they are the same
