That was a T-Y you burned. That should tell you not to trust the Lite-on’s scan :).
I was influenced by the Samsung SH-S223F review, where the burned TY CD had C2 errors when scanned by another LiteOn CDRW (I think 5238S). Also the review there shows that the CDR burning is not Samsung’s strong point, to put it nicely Although my Optiarc scans show it is decent, but with fw SB03, not SB00 as in the review!
Here are a couple AD-7200A/Benq DW1650 comparison scans. You be the judge. I think your Optiarc is being honest with you .
I see your point. Even they are not identical they both show clearly a good and a bad burn, and at the C1 rise and C2 errors at the same points! Very informative comparison!
Those are some really terrible C1/C2 results from your LiteOn 52327 scanning drive. I can’t remember ever seeing such terrible scans of Taiyo Yuden CD-R media.
In my experience the Optiarc 7200 series drives are very good readers and will therefore often show less errors and TRT slowdowns than many other drives.
In this case however, I suspect that your LiteOn drive is either dying or needs cleaning.
You mean to open it and clean it? I hope it is not dying
Perhaps you could try performing a TRT test in your Samsung drive as well, to see if the LiteOn drive is the only one having problems reading these discs?
I did a TRT test in both Samsung 223 and Optiarc 7203 and both are perfect. The same applies for the ScanDisc/Read Test @ max speed, for both drives: 100% good, all green! Thus, only the LiteOn has the reading problem.
So, you both say that I should trust the Optiarc scans.
The only thing I still do not understand is that the LiteOn does not show this behaviour in all CDRs. If you have the time to have a look at the tables attached in my previous posts, you’ll notice that the LiteOn scans are very good for some discs (also the Optiarc ones) and very bad in some others. In the latter case though the Optiarc show that the discs are of about the same quality as the ones that the LiteOn finds fine!!! Eg, compare That’s burned at 8x and 32x (3rd and 4th line): Optiarc gives a quality score 97 and 96 respectively, where LiteOn 97 and 0 (scanning speed 32x)!!!
Also it looks like the LiteOn is more consistent when reading speed is set at 32x. Both quality scan results are far better, in some case close to Optiarc’s, and the TRT does not show this horrible graph as above…
Thank you both very much for your help
