Which drive to go with RICOHJPNR01?

Hello,

I need a drive to go with spindles of RICOHJPNR01 (Maxell) I have just bought. For me, the top two contenders for these discs are the NEC 2500 ($95 CDN) and the BENQ 822 ($78 CDN). Also, the 2510 is now available here at $126 CDN.

Any suggestions on which drive I should go for?

Thanks

I have burned lots of RICOHJPNR01 (Tevion) with my NEC 2500 without problems at 4x. I also tried 6x and 8x with Herrie’s latest firmwares but afterwards the discs had a few errors. But I don’t care for these 5 extra minutes when writing at only 4x.

RICOHJPNR01 is in my opinion verys reliable my BTC 1004IM burns it wihtout high pi/po scores and my LiteOn SOHW-832S has so far the best results wit these Medias (and mcc 01 rg20)

Just about any drive does well with RICOHJPNR01. Dunno about Pioneer, as I’ve heard it mentioned that Ricoh R01 is the Achilles’ (sp?) heel of the Pios. Never owned a Pio to verify this.

I can say that Ricoh R01 is the favorite media type of LiteOn drives, and it burns at 8x beautifully… PI averages < 0.5 many times. But as I said, it also burns well on many other drives… it’s just that the LiteOns are the ones that I have the most experience with. I’ve burned about 100 of 'em already…

Between your two contenders I would say the Benq 822. Quality would be about the same but speed would be about 8:20 for the Benq and 10:30 for the NEC.
