Which drive is better for scanning, dw1620 or dw1655?

Hi, I have the opportunity to buy a second hand drive, a dw1620 or a dw1655. I want the drive ONLY for scanning cd and dvd media with jitter scanning, which drive is better with more matured firmware, and detecting errors?

Thank you very much in advance, and sorry for my english.

For scanning only, I would personally choose the BenQ DW1620 over the BenQ DW1655, because the DW1655 has scanning “dips” (temporary slowdowns) and it also has some scanning flaws where it can ignore errors during scanning that will make it fail during reading.

The DW1620 doesn’t have these flaws but it still supports the advanced disc quality scanning functions.

For burning, I’d prefer the DW1655, but that’s not what you’re asking.

Thank you for your quick reply DrageMaster. So I’ll buy the 1620 then.

Another question, the benq is good detecting C2 errors on cds, o should trust more my old liteon LTR-52246s, which support C1/C2 error scanning but no jitter?

Thanks again.

I’ve never had a LiteOn LTR-52246S so I won’t comment on how well it scans, but AFAIK it only reports C1=BLER and C2=E32 whereas the BenQ DW1620 reports in more detail using the Advanced Disc Quality Scan tab.

Yep, for scanning, the DW1620, DW1625, and DW1640 are better than the DW1650 and DW1655.
