Hi,

I have some

[ul]
[li]MCC 03RG20 (old stock)
[/li][li]MCC004 (new variant)
[/li][li]MCC004 (old stock)
[/li][/ul]all MiT

and I have a bunch of writers:
External (USB)[ul]
[li]Optiarc AD 7200A
[/li][li]Pioneer DVR-112L
[/li][li]Liteon SHM-165P6S
[/li][li]LG GE20NU (USB)
[/li][/ul]Internal

[ul][li]LG GSA-4163B
[/li][li]TSSTcorp SH-S203B
[/li][li]Benq DW-1650
[/li][li]LG GH22LP20
[/li][/ul]
What’s your favourite drive for the media mentioned above? I intend to burn the discs at 8x or 12x.

Michael

I’d go with the 112L for both types, and the DW1650 for the +R.

Pioneer DVR-112L (8x) or Optiarc AD-7200A (8x) for the MCC004 are hard to beat.

Pioneer DVR-112L (6x) or Liteon SHM-165P6S (8x) for the MCC03RG20 are hard to beat.

I haven’t tested MCC03RG20 with all my drive, however, so some other burners might do just as well.

The only one of those drives I have direct experience with is the SH-S203B and it is very good with MCC004 at 8x.

Serious question. Are there any modern drives that aren’t at least good with MCC004 at 8x?
Serious question. Are there any modern drives that aren’t at least good with MCC004 at 8x?
What do you consider “modern” ?

My Optiarc AD-5170A/7170A/7173A were fairly mediocre, mostly because of bad relinking at 8x with MCC004 and some other media.

My Matshita UJ-840S laptop drive is terrible with most media including MCC004, producing burns that are no fully readable in all my drives.

Well… you asked!

Didn’t know about the Optiarcs…I didn’t pay much attention to them prior to the 72xx series. The Matshita, well that’s no surprise. Thanks Drage.

Now back to the regularly scheduled poll/answers for mciahel before he annihilates me for hijacking his thread.

:iagree:

Except for the AD-719x series, which were rebadged Lite-On DH-20A3x drives, I didn’t pay much attention to Optiarc prior to the AD-720x series either.

But anyway, the AD-7200A would be my choice.

Obviously my choices for the MCC004 would include the lovely 4163B :D.

I’ve also had good results with the MCC004s at 8x-12x with:

Sammy 203N (your drive + LS as you know)
BenQ 1650

I also loved my Pio 115D for 8x MCC004 burns, but sadly I no longer have it and it’s not available now …hopefully your 112L is just as good though, as people have suggested.

Can’t speak for MCC 03RG20 as I hardly ever use it.

Thanks at all

Seesm as if I could use all my drives, perhaps except the new LGs from the list since nobody mentioned them

Now creating some content to fill the discs with…

Hehe, I didn’t vote for them since I’m not lucky enough to own one :D…I forgot to vote for the 4163B, though!
