Where To Find What Firmware You Have?

I have XP Pro SP1. My XJ-HD166S DVD ROM drive is listed in the Device Manager but no where in there does it say what firmware it loaded on the drive.

I have a Tyan S1854 VIA133 U66 Slot1/S370 ATX motherboard loaded with default settings.

Is there anything I need to enable/disable or am I missing something obvious here?

Nero InfoTool would tell you. You can get this free here.

Your bios might also say.

I tried InfoTool and it causes my PC to reboot every time. I don’t think I have anything running in the background that would conflict with the program.

Here are a number of other tools that you can try:
DISCInfo
CDVDInfo
DriveInfo
Samsung WININQUIRY
Acer/BenQ Firmware Detection Tool

To check your firmware revision go to

Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Storage->Removable Storage->Libraries

Right-Click your drive and select Properties, select Device Information Tab.

You can also access Computer Management by Right-Clicking on My Computer->Manage.

or just at the beginnig when your PC Starts.

when it says

Primary Master: Hard Drive
Secondary Master: Hard/CD Drive with firmware revision
Primary Slave: Hard/CD Drive with firmware revision
Secondary Slave: Hard/CD Drive with firmware revision

etc.

You’ll see a brand name of your CD Drive and its firmware.
e.g Aopen 1224 R24 or Liteon 40125S ZS0P

The beginning is called Basic Input/Output System =>BIOS

Before I knew about Nero Info Tool, I always used this tool (53k). Just download and click open, or save it if you want to use it again later

Not all POST screens display the FW revision. I have an ABIT KT7A (AWARD BIOS 6.00PG) which does display FW revision, but my Daewoo CB649M-SI (AWARD BIOS 4.51PG) and my laptop (PhoenixBIOS) don’t display it.

If you use Nero, it will show the firmware revision in the drive properties. I think ECDC will show the firmware in the drive properties, too.
