Where to buy dvd-r media in Europe?

Hi can someone recommend where I buy dvd-r media cheap in Europe? Preferebly Germany because of their low shipping costs.

http://www.nierle.com/ seems pretty cheap, but I’ve stumbled on some suspicious fake media there so I’m hesitant to order from them.

Thanks.

www.svp.co.uk - huge selection, very friendly with returns

Avoid German shops. They have to charge copyright taxes for GEMA. But as we don’t copy anything illegally, we are not morally obliged to pay.

I´m going to a German shop now…just around the corner. I think it´s part of a chain …Zur48 and I´m gonna look at their media and :Z

So I guess I´ll just buy another USB cable (always useful) and go looking for a beer…possibly a Becks. That´s really the only way to get home happily from a German media shop…buy something trivial and get a beer!

Thanks. Only problem is that shipping cost from UK is 2-2,5 times as much as from Germany :frowning:

No other places in Europe to buy from ? Surely I can’t be the only guy in Europe buying online?

Let’s see other good european options

Shops are located in luxembourg !

There’s WeSellCD in Germany, where you can get Verbatim and TDK media (and some no-name brands I wouldn’t buy personally).

There are other shops too, like this one:

They seem pretty good, have you bought from them?

100stk. Premium DVD-R, 4,7GB 16x
Premium DVD-R 4,7GB 16xspeed, white pearl
new design

media code:Sony 16D1

€28

which is a pretty good price i think if they’re genuine and true sony 16d1 dvds?

or

100 verbatim for 34,00 €

or

100stk. Chromeline DVD-R 8xspeed white fullface printable
media code: MCC03RG20
€29

or

TDK DVD-R 16x speed cakebox
100stk media code: TTH02
€36

according to http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm all these media code is considered the best. ranked as “1st class media”

the tdk and verbatim dvd’s are the only ones that actually have the brand name. but theyre also the most expensive. 6-8 euro more than the sony ones.

i think ill order any of the above 4 mentioned… question is which one, and if this is the best price in europe?

I’d probably go for the Verbatims.

Not sure about the Chromeline ones, I’d be curious if they’re genuine MCC or not, as I never heard of the brand.

And as far as Sony or TDK coded media being 1st class, opinions will differ

Yes, several times.

I don’t know if they’re genuine, if they’re downgrade Sony media, or if they’re fake.

I consider this a no-name brand, and I don’t personally buy no-name media.

100 verbatim for 34,00 €
I would prefer bying in 25pc cakeboxes instead, which reduces the chance of the discs getting scuff marks.

100stk. Chromeline DVD-R 8xspeed white fullface printable
media code: MCC03RG20
I don’t know if they’re genuine, if they’re downgrade Mitsubishi media, or if they’re fake.

I consider this a no-name brand, and I don’t personally buy no-name media.

TDK DVD-R 16x speed cakebox
100stk media code: TTH02
My TDK DVD-R 16x (TTH02) haven’t been exactly impressive, but they’re OK if I don’t burn them at max speed.

I trust my own experience and the results posted here at CDFreaks more than I trust that site. And there’s more to media than the media code.

Unfortunately, the best DVD media I have right now are Verbatim 16x DVD+R (MCC 004) Made in India and the worst DVD media I have right now are also Verbatim 16x DVD+R (MCC 004) Made in India. So I’m not exactly happy with Verbatim Quality Control, but in general it’s still better than most other media.

The media I currently trust the most is Plextor branded Taiyo Yuden media, in case you want to know, but that’s based on only 2-3 different batches so far (I’ve only just started burning the third batch).

Agreed on both counts. I’d also like to add the other media I trust is Verbatim branded 8x Taiyo Yuden +R, shame it’s so thin on the ground!

Didn’t spot the brand of that Sony media, good point - I never heard of them.

As for Verbs, I’m pleased with the Prodisc ones I have, and the MII ones give good burns on my neighbour’s Sony (LiteOn rebadge) - haven’t tried either on my lastest drive, and I’m not too impressed with the CMC-made ones I have currently.

Plextor branded Taiyo Yuden media, is that available and europe? and if it’s, it’s way more expensive than any of the media i mentioned, isnt it?

the tdk dvds i mentioned comes in 25 cakeboxses and not the big 100s if thats a good thing?

Yes, you can find 16x rated Plextor branded Taiyo Yuden media in Europe, and IMO you can find it fairly priced. I would be surprised to see 8x rated Plextor branded Taiyo Yuden media sold in any on-line shop.

Plextor branded TY at SVP (UK)

Plextor branded TY at Digital Promotions (UK)

CDFreaks DE shop (Netherlands?): Search for “Plextor” in the drop-down box at the bottom of the left coulmn.

thanks for the links. probably still a little to expensive for (shipping cost ends up nearly as much as the media itself…) but i might order later and use them for serious backups.
