Where is the speed that I bought? (LG GH22L)

[qanda]This thread is about the LG GH22L. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]So I just bought my first aftermarket DVD burner. The one that came with my computer when I bought it was very slow and failed often. I read many articles and reviews before I purchased a LG GH22L burner. I got it today and just burned my first DVD and it only wrote at 4.4X. I was expecting MUCH faster. It is advertised as a 22x burner. Yes I know that the Verbatim disk is only a 16X speed disk but why didn't it write at say 10 or 12X. I was expecting much faster than 4X. What do I need to do? I was writing a data disk....making a backup copy of photos. It was just over 4GB of data.

Suggest ensuring that your LG GH22L Burner is correctly connected to an Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable and that your LG GH22L Burner is operating in the Ultra DMA Mode 4. Most high speed DVD Burners to obtain optimal performance require the use of a Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCable80-c.html) and operate in the Ultra DMA Mode 4 (http://club.cdfreaks.com/f61/troubleshooting-enabling-checking-dma-windows-vista-xp-2000-me-9x-101616).
