When I copy a DVD the movie freezes when I play it

I have been able to successfully copy some movies using DVD Decrypter and then Nero.
However the last few that I have tried to copy have resulted in the copied DVD freezing up in some spots.
The amount of freezing up varies from movie to movie, but I want to know why I suddenly can no longer copy a DVD 100%
I am using Windows 98 SE and , I have a Sony DVD burner and I am using Sony DVD disks. My DVD player is a Citizen.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction on how to solve this problem.

Welcome to the forum

Usually this an issue caused by a bad media. Can you post a scan with cd-dvd speed of your problematic media?

before blamming media why dont u try using dvd shrink and burn with dvd decrypter to do this change dvd shrink setting to create iso and burn using dcrypter…cheers :iagree:

Can you explain to me how I do this?

How do i change DVD Shrink to ISO?

Indeed! This is almost always a result of bad media. :iagree:

There is a drop down in the window that appears after choosing “back up” on how you want to save the back up, either to “dvd folders” or to an “image file” (iso).

1stly u need 2 have dvd shrink on ur system so f u have this then what u do is load in the dvd ur wishing 2 burn go to open disc it will then do a quick anaylisis. after that u should have the info from the disc on the screen…
now go to backup disc…it should have 2 drop downs and go to the drop down with create an iso and burn with decrypter…then everthing should be sweet :iagree: CHEERS

Budwieser is 4 the weak

I tried it but still have the same result. any other ideas?

What type of sony dvd writer are you using? Do you need a firmware update? Try using good media like Fuji dvd+r 8x (made in japan) and lower your burn speed. I have a sony writer and had some of the same type of issues. Not to mention on some of the newer movies dvd decrypter will not work. Need a better decrypter like AnyDVD.

As I said first, most of times these problems are caused by a bad burning. Can you post a scan of your burnings?

To do a scan you need cd-dvd speed. Simply put the disc in the BURNER (not on a dvd reader, because only burner are able to do reliable scans), and choose “Disc quality” tab. Select 4x as scanning speed, and press the “Start” button. Wait until scan finish, and save the image pressing on the little button on right-high corner of the window (those with a little disc on).

Most drives don’t have the ability to scan.

But sony burners, that have liteon hardware, can do scans.

alyn21 have a sony burner, so I suggest to do a scan.

And MOST drives do have the ability to scan. There are only a few makes and models that can’t scan.

I had the same problem with my sony burner. I was told it was a media issue and people said to order taiyo yuden disks so i did. Just got them today and tried to copy a dvd using dvd shrink and nero and got an error. Have no idea what to do now. I am frustrated to the point where i am thinking about selling my computer and buying a new one. Oh yeah and what is DMA, someone said my dma was off and that could be the problem. How do I turn it on if thats the case?

Try to read this thread.

Regarding your problem, can you explain better? What error do you receive exactly? What model of sony burner do you have? What firmware? On what media do you receive that error?

Please, post more details.

To check DMA, go to control panel/system/hardware/device manager, and right click your primary and seconday ide paths. All should show dma or udma, and not PIO. If in doubt, uninstall both your primary and secondary ide’s, and then reboot and let windows autodetect the settings. If you still have a problem, make sure that you don’t have nero’s INCD, or Sonic DLA installed on your system. Both of these can cause problems.

Geno here is a copy of the error.

My burner is a SONY DVD±RW DW-D56A, i am using taiyo yuden dvd-r 8x TYG02. My firmware is PDS7. A friend checked it the other night and said it was the most current.

Harley2ride, I went into the control panel, etc. My primary IDE says DMA mode for current transfer mode. For the secondary IDE i have DMA if available selected for transfer mode but for current transfer mode it says PIO mode.

Probably your problem is DMA off on IDE channel. To enable DMA follow harley2ride indications or read this thread

This other message maybe is due to the fact that your firmware don’t recognize this media. Sorry, I don’t know this model of burner, so I don’t know if this is a supported media or not.
