So, to play off of the "What's the worst MID you've used?" thread, I decided to ask a similar question:
What burner have you owned that has just been your favorite? The venerable BenQ DW1640? The strong LG GSA-4163B? The plucky Pioneer DVR-111D? Maybe the well-tested & re-tested LiteOn SHM-165H6S? A Samsung SH-S203B to overspeed your YUDEN000 T02 to 20x? Perhaps a Plextor PX-716A was more your fancy, along with the Plextor Premium? The "_NEC" ND-3520A? An Optiarc AD-7201S?
To accompany THAT question, I also must ask: what burner have you just wished you could reduce to a smoldering heap of silicon and plastic? What drive made you so angry that you literally took a hammer to it? Was it a BTC? An odd little Optiarc AD-7170A/Plextor PX-800A? A BenQ DQ60/Plextor PX-750A? Maybe a Samsung TS-H552B/TS-H552U?
For me, I've been a LiteOn lover, and I have a fondness in my heart for the SOHW-832S and SOHW-1693S. Those two drives represent the whole reason I fell in love with CDFreaks/MyCE. They could be tweaked to within an inch of their inanimate lives, and that experience really pushed me into my current major (software engineering).
Unfortunately, I also have a bit of hate for a LiteOn: the SOHW-1633S/SOHW-1653S. It could have been a good drive, but...they asked too much of the hardware. It wasn't capable of good 16x burns, ate up my first RICOHJPN R03, and just overall let me down. In addition to this, I grew to hate my LG GSA-4166B. It, too, liked to eat RICOHJPN R03, was finicky with most everything else, and eventually needed to be placed in a certain orientation just to be used for anything (it was an external drive).
So share your love/hate stories, if you'd like. A bit of nostalgia is always appreciated. :iagree:
