What's your Best and Worst DVD Media IN your experience?

Off Topic:

This is a companion post to OC’s original, pointing to DVD rather than CD media.

Don’t start mudslinging!!! If We rate you favorite DVDs as garbage, so be it. But don’t bitch about it…

Note this is the manufacturers, not the disc brand.

Taiyo Yuden
Fujifilm
Ricoh
Prodisc
CMC(Yes their quality has improved this much)

BOTTOM 5(the worst first):
Interaxia
TDK

Ritek(mainly due to widely varying quality)
MCC(slipped in quality)

Feel Free to add yours.

  3. Ricoh
  4. Maxell’s

I Don’t like:

Hi Jamos.

I would like to point out that TDKs (at least in Europe), are TY (-R) and Ricoh (+R) - so I think they deserve a better place in the list

Also I would like to ask a question: Why MCC (mostly Verbatims) are so famous and expensive since the quality is not the highest of all? Most of the times they are more expensive even compared to TYs, is this reasonable, or a marketing trick instead?

BEST:

TY
Ritek
Maxell
Verbatim (MCC)
MBI

Worst:

Princo
Laser (cant remember the manufacturer :frowning: )

Note: All DVDs are of the MINUS format.

Best:

Prodisc S03
Ritek G04
TY

Worst:
Princo
Whatever brand of the week Sonics happen to be.

I am referring to the TDK labled MID code disks, not the disks Sold by TDK. MCCs were very good when they made the 4x brand, but since then their quality has gone down with their 8x brand.

Best:

Ricoh (Ridata branded)
CMC (TDK branded only)
Verbatim
Philips
Optodisc (Radius branded 2.4x)

Worst:

Optodisc (The Radius branded 4x, not the 2.4’s)
CMC (Memorex branded 75 bulk pack)

He He. I was not rating your media specifically, more that Ritek varies so much from batch to batch, that it has become unreliable for most. Plese Don’t hate me. :o

Best:
Ricohr001 4X +R (Memorex and Maxell)
TY 4X +R (Plextor)
MCC002 4x +R (Verbatim)

Worst:
Princo 4x -R

Donot know about 8X rated MCC´s… But the 4X speed (MCC-002) burns great here.
Verbatim DataLifePlus 1-4X rated burns perfect @8X speed.

@dvd-noob, welcome to cdfreaks

BTW, from my experience Princo´s 1-4X are worst… :a

From my own experience using media at its certified speed:

Excellent Media:
YUNDEN000T01
TYG02
RICOHJPNR01
PRODISCR02

Good Media:
CMCMAGAF1
CMCMAGR01
RITEKR03 Rev 01
TTG01

Crappy Media:
PRINCO
TDKG02
MEDIAID001
AN35
LONGTEN001

best:
Verbatim MCC002
Ritek Ridata branded G04
Ritek matt top G04

worst:
Fortis +R (Nanya), real crap.
AN32 bulk shiny top. problems from 4.2G+.

Best:Ricoh (Ridata branded) 100 pack burns and not a coaster in sight.

Worst:Princo (CompUsa branded) Yes,the absolute worst!

LOL wasn’t aimed at you Jamos, it was aimed at the post previous to mine, sorry i should have made that clear

This one

:o

(quote with deleted listed media /pinto2)

IMO, all good media should be able to “overspeed”, heh he.

In my opinion the 3 best and the 3 worst +R media:

Best:

  1. Taiyo Yuden
  2. MCC003 / MCC002 (ONLY the ones from singapore)
  3. Beall / Ricoh

Worst:

  1. Princo
  2. Ritek (it’s a lottery game :p)
  3. CMC

That many times depends on the policy of the importer. In Israel for example, verbatim is the only decent media you can get in a fair price. TY costs double and maxel triple and more.
