What's Wrong with my DH20A4P

Just got one of these DH20A4P players and I’m throughly disappointed.

It takes 8 minutes to burn a 16X disc and 9 for an 8X. No matter what I try it seems to burn everything no faster then my 8xTDK burner?

That was the first thing I checked when I noted the problem. I’ve tried moving to different moving from secondary to primary, from slave to master, I’ve tried everything.

What I mean is the 16X drive takes 8 minutes to burn a 16X DVD and the 8X drive takes about the same of the same 1 hour movie.

Why isn’t it burning faster? I’ve tried everything.

Which media are you using?

Take Nero CD-DVD Speed, Tab Disc-Info to find out.

I’ve tried everything. Prodisc, Tayao, Sony +R -R same exact result. Drives are fully defragged. Tried the recorder as slave and master on IDE 1 and IDE2 as well as an third IDE via PCI Card. Only payed $36 for the drive but it’s not really any faster then the 8x TDK 880N it replaced. Didn’t try a new player yet because I’m not sure it’s the player.

Have you updated firmware?
Have you updated firmware?
Yes first thing I did after installing the drive.

Just burned a full disc, same prodisc 16X.

20X - 8 minutes
16X - 8 minutes
8X - 8minutes 20 seconds.

This can’t be right.

I have got the same drive, and same problem…other people have the same problem…but after a bit of talking, it seems that Liteon’s SMARTBURN technology may be responsible for the low write speed. You can try switching it off. Nero giives you the option.

I will give this a try…thanks.

How do I disable Smartburn in Nero 8?

Use this:

Yeah, this works great too! Easier, in fact.

#15

Thanks for the link. Didn’t make any difference in burning speed.

Are yiu using an 80 wire ide cable?

#17
Are yiu using an 80 wire ide cable?
Both my IDE cables look to be 80 oin.

Right now on the primary IDE I have the two hard drives and on the secondary the two dvd roms.

I also have a PCI Ultra ATA controller not connected to anything…

What do you suggest?

#18

Most ODD do not work well with PCI ATA controllers. Double check that the ide cables are 80 wire.

#19

Yes 80 wire. Nothing is connected to the PCI ATA controller.

can you post a graph of your burn?
