being quite the reluctant traveler that i was, yet helpless in the prospect of my parent's constant venturing around the world to meet their job opportunities, i ended up attended an uncountable number of primary and secondary schools within the past 10 years of my life. with the advent of facebook upon my innocent ignorance i immediately raced to gather names of said number of schools, and finally, with the list in my hands i began submitting them to the "edu and work" section/tab on my facebook profile page, and praying to god that i shall be reunited with my former classmates. Confusion and disappointment soon followed, for everytime i had submitted say...an secondary school i attended in 05, and while i was able to add another high school i was not able to change the year of which i attended, meaning every high school that follows after the first will be labeled year 05. Not only that, i wasn't even able to add in even one of the many elementary schools that I've attended, and this also applies for colleges and universities.
i find this very very frustrating, and for one with background such as i, couldn't help but feel offended and discriminated in the wake of such findings. imagine a blog registration site shutting out users who did not submit a new photo or write anything new on their page for a week. This one elementary, one high school, one college absurdness makes no sense to me, and i sincerely question the motive in the implementation of such a design. Prejudge me not, for i am not one to stir up trouble to satisfy my boredom and neither am i one to take every little motions of others as an offending gesture with the intent to insult/hurt me.
i would not say that facebook have invoked a certain sense of abnormal awareness within myself, it's like taking a walk in the park and catching a glance of an innocent child, then misinterpreting that as a sign of which my low self esteem is emitting out profondously before punching myself in the face out of dread shame for my miserable life; the child harbored no ill will towards me and i only overreacted. However in this case, facebook might as well state this in the personal info section: "your parent's name: enter the name of your father and mother into field 1 and 2, to change the name that are currently displayed, click cancel to clear the fields and re-type."
i would like to ask what your opinions are towards facebook reluctance to change said design of their edu profile page in spite of their willingness to initiated a major overhaul to the entire website itself just 4 months ago? if indeed they have never considered individual users having multiple academic institute of the same field abnormal?
