I've got a Omnifi hard drive in my car and it only takes mp3's at 320. It's future upgrades are being done by Openfi, an open source project. I have my music in ape files on my home pc ripped by EAC/AccurateRip. What's the best way to convert them, what app would you use?
I use windows media player to rip my music. You can change the format and bitrate under options.
lame, what else?!
Just use Lame with the RazorLame front-end. Absolutely legendary combination!
Correct :iagree: ! But he has to start from ape, so convert them into wav first?
Hmm, tough one, but I don't know of anything that goes straight from ape-->mp3.
Although, aren't .ape and .wav both lossless? That would at least mean that the quality wouldn't deteriorate, even if it takes a little longer to do.
i believe foobar2k can do it on the fly as long as you have the right codecs installed:
Support for transcoding all supported audio formats using the Converter component (requires external commandline encoder executables for different output formats).
I thought of dBpowerAMP, but I haven't tried it either.
Convert between audio formats & preserve ID tags
Thanks all for your input!! I ended up using winLAME, it converts directly, ape. to mp3. You're RIGHT, IT SOUNDS GREAT! Thanks again :iagree:
There's also ALL2LAME.
Drop the Monkey's Audio codec (APE.EXE, I believe) into ALL2LAME's folder, and it'll be able to go straight from APE to MP3.
[Edit]Oh, I see you found WinLAME. Also a good choice. :)[/Edit]
