Whats different between 352 x 240 (1/4 D1) -- 4:3 and

Hey guys whats the difference between 352 x 240 (1/4 D1) and
720 x 480 (CCIR-601 D1) I know it’s quality of your DVD but is it that much of a difference?

The lower resolution will look better at any given bitrate. Because of this you can encode lower res stuff at lower bitrates and save file size. So if the resolution isn’t there to begin with (VHS tapes from a camcorder as an example) you might as well use the lower res.

There’s a big difference between those resolutions.

[li]Quarter D1 has half the horizontal and half the vertical resolution of the original.[/li][li]Full D1 to CC1R-601 standard is full resolution DVD-Video standard, in this case NTSC (720 x 480).[/li][/ul]
